SUSTAINABILITY

Community Spaces

Co-op Community spaces supports recreation, environmental conservation, and urban agricultural projects across Western Canada. Each year, Co-op will contribute $1M to create places for everyone.

Canadian Red Cross

Co-op is a long-time partner of the Canadian Red Cross because of its commitment to help Western Canadian communities in times of need. Our donations stay in Western Canada to help our neighbours prepare for and recover from the unexpected.

Fuel Good Day

Co-op donates a minimum of five cents per litre of fuel purchased to a registered charity or non-profit organization of the local Co-op's choice. It's one of the ways Co-op makes a difference in local communities.

Communities in Full Colour

Communities in Full Colour provides interior and exterior paint or stain for local community improvement projects.

Sourcing better products

Co-op works to ensure our products are sourced responsibly, prioritizing local items whenever possible across all our business areas. For example, see our Sustainable Fish and Seafood Policy.

We build relationships with local suppliers; and we work with them to reduce and improve product packaging. Co-op also invests in renewable fuels and improving traditional transportation fuels.

Better business operations

Both local co-ops and the larger Co-operative Retailing System are improving how we do business. We’re working to reduce food waste, incorporating energy-efficient features into our facilities and improving the efficiency of our fleet. We’re also investing in research to find novel solutions to safely manage contaminated petroleum and agricultural sites.
